If you stacked all the career self help books end to end, they would stretch from here to the moon and still not help you get where you need to be as well as this book can. The beauty of this book is that the author leads you to the skills you already have, and holds you accountable for what you need to do. The blend of wit, anecdote, empowerment and solid theory can cut through the usual "be all you can be" rubbish and actually identify key strengths and strategies for addressing weaknesses. As a therapist engaged with clients problem solving on a daily basis, I cannot stress enough the value of an author that can practically move the reader through their own process. With nods to Warren Buffett (my favourite quote in the book) to Gestalt therapy and beyond - what a great read. You really have no excuse .... pick up a copy and get ready to achieve more.

I am completely sold on the concepts and ideas in this book. The strange thing is that I kept feeling that I kinda knew some of this stuff already (intuitively). However John Williams has put into words what were random loose thoughts in my head... and then added a whole lot more. All my life I have been looking for something. Trying one thing, getting bored and then moving onto another. I have been the butt of many family jokes about how many times I've changed jobs. But it's all clear now... I'm a SCANNER. It describes me absolutely perfectly.
I've read the book three times now. First time I read it cover to cover in one sitting (it took the greater part of the day but it was well worth it). The second time I went through it with a highlighter, pencil and post-its recording my thoughts, feelings and ideas as I went. The third time I got my Playbook out and started scribbling.... and guess what.... I think i may have found my calling.... My place where talent and passion intersect.
Now I'll be taking it a step further by joining John and his colleagues in a programme to help get my idea up and running... I need a solid kick in the backside and apparently they are very good at dishing them out. Bring it on!!!

After recently losing my job, this book was recommended me to by a friend. Quite honestly, exactly what was needed, In this unstable , we all need a way to focus, and a plan to follow to get back on the horse. Screw Work, Let's Play: How to Do What You Love and Get Paid for it, is it. Get it.

If I could I would have given this 6 stars! I bought this book thinking it would be an 'interesting' read but it really surpassed my expectations. It's really well written and structured. Very thorough in it's explanations and uses great examples all the way through. It kept me engaged to the very last page. Excellent!

It was great reading this book since it addressed exactly what I am currently looking for. I can recommend it to anyone who has the feeling that there has to be more out there than a dull job.
