1 out of 5 stars don' t let them fool you!   July 27, 2010
A Customer
I read this book three years ago when I was very naive and thought that if a physicist from Harvard said something, then it had to be true. Although Rhonda Byrne is not a scientist this book is supported by a few who makes nonsence she writes about look like a serious thing. The author uses different ways such as the title, incredible stories, opinion of scientists, fancy phrases like " you are a master of the Universe" or "you are an heire to the kingdom" or "to know the Secret is your birth right" and so on, to persuade you that you can have ANYTHING you want if you ask Universe( Rhonda didn't use the word God because nowdays God doesn't sell well)to send you things you want and believing you will recieve them. She also claims that we can materialize natural resources like oil by simply visualizing them and that is why our resources are limitless!(I would like to see Rhonda doing it) And did you know that the reason of obesity has nothing to do with genes or eating too much, you get fat because you think about it! Although I do believe that dominat thoughts can materialize(if they are realistic)and I base my opinion on my own experience,I think it is the ability of human brain, but not the work of the Universe as Rhonda and her little helpers claim. The ending of the book can make one cry. " The sun comes up for you. The birds sing for you. The flowers grow for you. Everything is here for you." I'm afraid birds give no damn about people or if they do, they wish we didn't exist as we cause them so much trouble.
I threw this book out as well as all others on "Law of Attraction" as I realised that the real secret to getting what you want is hard work! And if you want to understand how your thoughts get materialized, don't read stupid books, but instead think for yourself, analyse and observe. All those "miracle coaches" are not smarter then you. And while they promise that you will attract millions by simply thinking right thoughts, they themselves didn't attracts a penny that way! THEY MADE THEIR MILLIONS BY SELLING THEIR STUPID BOOKS!!!

5 out of 5 stars Life Changing   July 21, 2010
Spooks
I have read lots of books over the past 15 years that covered LOA or something simular but never quite got to grips with it but this book was quick and easy to read and got me exited because it was so easy and inspirational to use. I have spread the word where I can and also bought 3 further books as gifts.

It's also small and hard back so I carry it in my bag constantly to re-read when ever I have 5 minutes.

Also DVD and website.

Try it for yourself

1 out of 5 stars The Proof of the Pudding is in the Eating.   July 20, 2010
L. J. Gordon (Herts, UK.)
A book which will make you feel tremendous and ready to take on the world: for about a month, before reality sets in again.

While it is always better to be positive than negative on the basis of purely logical reasoning and nothing more metaphysical than that; being positive is not a magic wand.

As a former dupe of the concepts expressed in 'The Secret' and the many book which came before it, I am pleased to say that I have finally wised up and I have loads more time on my hands now that I now longer bother with affirmations and visualisations.

People who want something badly ie. Love, happiness, money, fame etc are always willing to believe anything which promises them these things. I aliken this book to the millions of diet books which all make you feel great by promising big things and yet which all fail dismally to deliver.

Take a look around you at the suffering in this world - 99.9% of people on this planet live in abject misery for one reaon or another. Are they all to blame for having negative thoughts?

I am not an atheist, yhere are many mysterious forces at work in this bizarre world. Anyone is a fool to believe it is so simple to create just what you want: as The Secret would have you believe.

3 out of 5 stars The Secret - If Only   July 17, 2010
Diane, Northern Ireland
This book is centred around the law of attraction, ie. if you think positive thoughts your life experiences will be positive and vice versa. I found it very thought provoking.
However I found it over the top in places, and I can't agree with some of the opinions expressed - eg. on the one hand the universe operates on the law of love but on the other it is indifferent to how we behave, also that human beings are the sole creators of the universe.
I found the plethora of quotations made the book very disjointed, and would have preferred a developing narrative with a reasoned argument.
On the other hand - some fascinating ideas about the power of the mind, and a challenging reminder that we can write the story of our own lives.

5 out of 5 stars A Beneficial Book   July 14, 2010

The huge success of Rhonda Byrnes book "The Secret" speaks for itself. In reading some of the reviews I must admit it appears that some are simply "reactions" rather than true reviews. I found Ms Byrnes approach to be remarkably engaging and certainly provokes thought. Her references again and again to "Avatars.Teachers, and great Leaders through the ages shows she has painstakenly researched the truths that have had some of the greatest impact in the lives of significant numbers of people. She is not offering her insights or rather her restatement of old truths as a new manuscript of reference to compete with or replace the Bible. To me what she covers in the book are things many of us have discovered in our lives or the lives of others to be true. This is the crux of the matter, if something is true, there is a reason why it is true. If something works it becomes an established principle that repeats itself again and again when the principle is applied. It does not matter who said it or how it was said if it is effectual in it's results then it has special significance. In watching the video and also reading the book, I was impressed with the energy and inspiration that was being expressed. It certainly was not negative energy or blasphemy against God. It was a treatise of encouragement in positive thought, faith, love, and expectation of doing more, experiencing more, achieving more and with an almost childlike faith an obvious confidence that good things will come forth. Without going into detail the emphasis on the "law of attraction" proves itself in the lives of people everyday and has done so through the ages. I liked the book and found it beneficial. Does it cover all the points of doctrine or my personal beliefs in ways perhaps I am accustomed to? No but that does not appear to be its purpose. With one broad sweep the book covers some of the most important truths that can bring some of the greatest changes for good in peoples lives. That seems to be the real issue, has it helped anyone? Apparently, it has helped thousands in many different ways. We may have our various religious positions but sometimes some things are presented in ways that differ from our personal approach and yet they may produce enormous beneficial results. To me "The Secret" is one of those things. No one is asked to leave their church, turn their backs on the Bible or become members of any new kind of cult, they are simply reminded of things that have been known by some through the ages that are powerful when applied in one's life. Thurman L. Faison, Author To the Spiritually Inclined
